Review: Beautifully Damaged by Laura Pavlov

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Peyton and Jackson were high school sweethearts that couldn’t imagine a future where they weren’t together. Then an unthinkable tragedy caused Jackson to question everything, even his relationship with Peyton. Flash forward nine years later and the two have grown up and apart. They’ve lived separate lives, but are forced to reunite when Jackson opens a new restaurant and won’t even entertain the idea of anyone other than Peyton designing it. Even with all the time apart and unanswered questions, it’s immediately clear that things between Peyton and Jackson are far from over. They quickly slip back into their easy and comfortable friendship, but it’s the romantic sparks that are flying between them that complicate things. Soon they’ll have to decide if the connection between them is enough to heal old wounds and make them forget all the hardships and obstacles from the past that tore them apart.

Hats off to Laura for this angsty and adorable novel that is first in her new Shine Design series. I was immediately drawn to the connection between Peyton and Jackson and loved that the story switched back and forth between past and present. This book also has some fantastic secondary characters, including the cute as a button, Elle who just cracked me up with her southern charm and “bless your heart” attitude. Even though this story packs the angst, it’s still a light and quick summer read, perfect for lounging by the pool or at the beach. I can’t wait to read more from Laura and see what’s next in the series!
